We are St Stephen's Comely Bank Church
We meet every Sunday at 11 for worship. Our services are usually around 1 hour 15 minutes and we always finish with coffee (every Sunday) or lunch (one Sunday a month).
We are a church of ordinary people who love God and who believe that Jesus Christ is their Saviour and Lord. For us, church is family – warts and all – so we’re far from perfect, but we work hard to live together, learn together and love one another in the process.
We have new people nearly every week, so if you want to come along, you will be welcomed and met by a friendly face at the door who can help with anything that seems alien. Whether you are just passing, have recently moved into the area, or have lived here all your life and are just curious, you are welcome.
And don’t worry about dressing up or thinking you have to get bits of your life sorted before you come – please just come as you are – ready to find out more about our God who made us, who loves us and who longs to be in relationship with us.
You don’t have to be a Christian to come, you are welcome just as you are.
Our Sunday service begins with a welcome, some information about what is going on in the church for the next week and an invitation to join in celebrating the good news about Jesus Christ. We sing a mix of contemporary Christian songs and hymns, sometimes accompanied by our Praise Band, sometimes with a music stream. Key to why we meet every Sunday is to hear from God’s Word, the Bible, and to hear a sermon on the passage inviting us to reflect and respond together to it. The service lasts for about an hour and a quarter.
If you have little people with you, we have a family area in the church where you can sit together for the first part of the service. The children are invited to leave a short way through where there is a crèche for pre-schoolers, a Sunday Club for primary aged children and an Inspire group for teenagers.
We finish our time together with tea, coffee, juice and biscuits, and it’s quite normal to find people still chatting and tidying up an hour after the service ends. Once a month, we have a soup lunch together in the Church halls after the service and there is always plenty of food for whoever comes.
