A few days ago a short video clip was shared on YouTube. It is about rescuing a sheep from a narrow ditch, only to jump back into it a few seconds later. Here you can have a look at it.
It is an amusing clip, and a very apt illustration of our sinful state. The prophet Isaiah wrote:
“We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
How often we go astray, get into “a ditch” we can’t get out of because of our own sinfulness or foolishness! How much we need the Good Shepherd to rescue us! He needs to rescue us again and again! He did not only have to pull us out of “a ditch” but he had to lay His life down for us! God knew that pulling us out of “a ditch” (moral, spiritual or physical that might be) will not change our attitudes, our sinful nature. We will not learn from it! Soon we will find ourselves in another, or worse, the same “ditch” again. Our lives need radical and total transformation! We need to be saved from the power and influence of evil and sin! We need a new mindset, and heart-set, we need to live a renewed life. We need the Good Shepherd to take our iniquity, our sin on himself and pay the penalty for it that we might go free; and when we are set free His Spirit is working in us to renew our minds, guide us and empower us to live life in a new way, God’s way, in a Christ-like way!
Give thanks for His saving sacrifice and pray for Holy Spirit’s continuous work in you, renewing and shaping you daily into more Christ-likeness.
