Last week I shared some thoughts raised by an amusing video clip of rescuing a sheep. Watching the clip again, I had some more thoughts. Here they are, both the clip, just to remind you, and my fresh thoughts.
Watching the clip as the sheep jumped back into the ditch after being rescued from it, I wondered how much patience the shepherd needs with his flock?! And how much love he needs for them? The sheep just make the same mistakes over and over again, they don’t learn from their experiences and the shepherd has to rescue them repeatedly.
Do we appreciate the inexhaustible love, endless patience, and enduring faithfulness of our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ? For we also, just like sheep repeatedly go astray, make the same mistakes, and don’t learn from them. We all need to be rescued again and again! How often He has to teach us the same lesson? How many times He has to renew His saving mercy over us? Here is an Old Testament example: Jeremiah gave thanks to God on behalf of the people of Jerusalem that because of God’s great love they were not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; so great is His faithfulness! (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Where would we be without God’s great love, patience and faithfulness? You know, the wonderful thing is that no matter how often we repeat the same sins, make the same or similar mistakes, our foolishness, and the slowness of our mind and heart do not diminish His love for us one iota! Isn’t that amazing? What a wonderful Saviour we have in Jesus Christ! He is never giving up on us!
Stop doing the same mistakes, and give Jesus the praise, honour and glory for His endless love, unbroken patience and eternal faithfulness for you!
