We have raised sufficient funds to move ahead with the recruitment of a Family Outreach Worker on a part-time (minimum 1.5 days/week, up to 3 days/week) 1-year fixed term contract (renewable, subject to funding). Salary will be paid at a rate of between £13 and £15 per hour, depending on experience.

What we need

We are looking to recruit a new staff member into our ministry team with the skills, experience and confidence to coordinate and lead Christian outreach work with families in our community. Some of the activities of the role would be:

· To drive the development of family-focused worship activities aimed at non church families. This could be through developments to our current service provision or through new worship activities.

· To attend the current family outreach provided by our church and develop supportive relationships with the families beyond the established weekly activities.

· To consider our wider community and ways to work with non-church families through partnerships with local community organisations and our links with the local primary and secondary schools.

· To consider the greatest needs that the families in our local community face – be it isolation and loneliness, support with caring responsibilities, mental health, parenting skills or financial skills – and to develop ministries to support them.

The Family Outreach Worker would help our church family to reach young families, listening to their needs and enabling the church to respond appropriately. The aim would be to develop a pathway whereby non-church families can explore their faith and the meaning of bringing their young ones and themselves into a faith-based community.

All these activities will be fully supported by members of the church family who are skilled in working with families.

The practicalities

In this role:

· You will report into Kirk Session, with line management carried out by Timothy Pitt and Alison Franks who manage the other staff members of the church.

· You will be part of the ministry team, working with our Minister, Youth Pastor and Ministry Assistant.

· You will develop a network of volunteers to support you with developing strategy, implementing and running initiatives and for prayer support.

· As this is a new role, the detailed role description will be developed by you following an initial discernment process to establish a framework for the role.

· Hours can be worked flexibly, to suit both you and the ministry/community groups you are working in partnership with.

How to apply

To apply for the position, or to request further information, please send your details, your reasons for applying and a current CV to office@comelybankchurch.com, marked for the attention of Alison Franks.

The post will be announced in both our church and the other churches in our Parish Grouping on the first 3 Sundays of January (7, 14 and 21 Jan) at the morning worship service, with a request for any notes of interest to be received by Friday 26 January. We will also post these details on our website.

If suitable candidates have notified interest, we will proceed to interview. If we do not have any/sufficient candidates, we will proceed to advertise the role more widely.
